The Northolm Herd of Tamworths
Mariners Farm is the home of the Northolm Herd of Pedigree Tamworth pigs, established over 20 years ago and currently consisting of six sows/gilts along with our boar and about 30 of their offspring. All our breeding pigs are registered with the British Pig Association and all litters are birth notified making each individual eligible for registration - this is particularly important for a Rare Breed such as the Tamworth for whom tracking members of the breed is a vital part of its conservation.
Another vital part of conservation of the Tamworth is eating it! If people don't eat the meat, there is no market for the majority of offspring of breeding stock which means that breeders don't breed them, and the next generations don't get produced - the breed gets rarer.....Fortunately Tamworth pork is delicious - in fact it has been scientifically proven the tastiest pork of all!

Our Pigs
However this is not the only reason we keep Tamworths - they are also great fun to have around and each has its own character.
Our four sows are Eliza (Berkswell Ruby 16), her granddaughter Jolene (Northolm Ruby 4) and Gladys (Tudful Lucky Lass 71) and her daughter Flower (Northolm Lucky Lass 6). Eliza and Gladys are the matriarchs of the herd while Flower and Jolene are much younger and have only had a litter or two each. All are very good mums.
Jolene and Flower are both by our previous boar Elmhurst Golden Ranger 27, alias Boss. Boss has now moved on to a new home and we have a younger boar Woodhall Glen (Woody) who has already sired some very nice litters.
All our pigs are very good-natured and love a bit of fuss!
